The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) wishes to announce a call for applications for the position of Director of the Institute (effective in Spring 2020). CERCA, the Agency for the Research Centres of Catalonia that will lead the search process, invites applications for this position.
ICIQ is an internationally leading institution in the field of chemistry, committed to performing research at the frontiers of knowledge. ICIQ targets two main broad-scope problems: the Sustainable Supply of Raw Materials through innovative catalysis and the Development of Renewable Energy Sources, mostly from the perspective of artificial photosynthesis. In particular, ICIQ’s research groups have developed leading expertise in the areas of advanced catalysis, functional molecular materials, photovoltaics, valorisation of raw materials, spectroscopy, and computational chemistry.
The Director is expected to provide scientific leadership to the Institute and will be responsible for its ongoing strategic development, ensuring that its programmes and technical facilities remain at the forefront of chemical research, and that discoveries made at ICIQ contribute to the progress of society. The selected person will be an exceptionally accomplished and ambitious scientist with an outstanding international research management profile. The Director will set the example and drive the values and ethos of the Institute.
The Director appointment will be for a period of 5 years, renewable for additional 5 year periods upon approval by ICIQ’s Board of Trustees. The Director will also be appointed as a permanent Senior Group Leader at ICIQ. The salary and terms of employment will be discussed in detail at an appropriate stage of the selection process.
