This proposal aims at developing enabling methodologies based on the homogeneous catalysis of gold and other transition metals to streamline the organic synthesis of complex molecules. One of our goals is the synthesis of new chiral metal catalysts, bimetallic complexes and well-defined electrophilic polynuclear clusters for the development of new catalytic applications. An important objective is to broaden the scope of gold-catalyzed decarbenation reaction, particularly in the context of enantioselective synthesis and to replace gold by other metals. We will also apply our methodologies for the concise synthesis of natural products with the aim at accessing more simple bioactive analogues. A final objective is to invent robust methodologies for the syntheses of linear polyarenes and nanotubes by using metal-catalyzed reactions.
